all three

A month or so ago we moved into a new house and each kid now has their own room. (hurrah!) I am finishing up Jack’s room (he is one) and it really is coming along great. The last few details are being added. Yesterday’s project was making three little pictures to hang above his dresser. They are  felt (from the sweet emma jean Etsy shop, of course!) and only took me a few hours to do. Since they are framed behind glass I just glued the pieces, adding a few sewing embellishments where needed. The great thing about wool felt is you can use ordinary tacky glue and it won’t bleed through like it does with the synthetic felt you get from Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. And don’t forget there are over 120 colors to choose from! So your possibilities are limitless… Many of the colors I used came from my Modern Baby Boy Collection, a specially priced set of eight colors.

My main Etsy shop “sweet emma jean” will be closed for about a week while we pack up everybody (and all the felt) and move to Boston. I will still be replying to convo’s and e-mails so if you have a question don’t hesitate to ask. Also, I will still be selling my felt food PDFs thru my “pop up” shop on Etsy : The Felt Shop. Be sure to ‘like’ us on Facebook or subscribe to us on Twitter so you will be the first to know when we reopen the main shop. Looking forward to doing business with you again soon. Wish us luck!

I was inspired by my friend Julia to make one of these stacked felt circle Christmas tree ornaments. I raided my  stash of felt and took a sheet of each shade of green that I sell in my Etsy shop. The result is amazing. I am going to make as many as I can in the next two weeks to give as gifts! PS I made the felt sheets thicker and fluffier by soaking them in hot water, squeezing the water out, then drying them in the dryer for 30 minutes. I think it adds a nice effect to the tree.

Made from each shade of green available in my Etsy shop!

Our Baby Elephant shoes are featured in the December 2012 issue of “Pregnancy and Newborn Magazine”!

Just in time for Halloween… a super easy new pattern for you from sweet emma jean. Make your baby even more yummy with this super cute, comfortable to wear and easy to make CHIPWICH COSTUME!!!!! Get a copy of the pattern and all the felt you will need to make it in my Etsy shop.

We recently hosted a party to celebrate the baptism of our baby boy. I had way too much fun planning this party and incorporating the theme (green and blue polka dots) into every detail I could think of.

A little O.C.D.? Yes. (But in a good way!)

Of course I came up with some clever uses for felt! I prepared a large dessert buffet (all homemade – yes… crazy, I know) – and made cupcake stands to create some height on the table and allow me to fit more food onto it as well. These are so easy and versatile. They really worked out well. Click here for a tutorial showing how to make them. You can use any combination of felt colors to match your party theme.

For the centerpiece of each table I cut out a 9″ circle of felt and set a plate piled high with homemade cookies onto the center of the circle. I then sprinkled paper confetti dots all over the table to add more color to them. Yes, the cookies have  blue and green nonpareil “polka dots”!

Even the straws had blue and green polka dots!

For the take-home favors, I made cupcakes and packaged them in a plastic cup with a cellophane bag and ribbon tie. I looked all over the internet for instructions after seeing this idea on Pinterest. Nobody said what size cellophane square they used or what baggie size so I had to wing it. Here is what I did:

You need 9 oz clear tumblers; gusseted clear cellophane baggies that measure approx. 9″h x 4″ x 2″ (I got a package of 50 in the candy making aisle at Michaels); lengths of grosgrain ribbon about 9″ long; decorative tags (optional) and decorative paper cupcake liners.

Bake the cupcakes in plain white cupcake liners and let them cool completely. Do not frost them yet.  Place a decorative liner into the bottom of each clear plastic cup. Mine had green and blue polka dots, of course! :) Insert a cooled, unfrosted cupcake into each cup/liner assembly. Now pipe your frosting onto the top of the cupcake, keeping it away from the edges a bit. Decorate the cupcakes with sprinkles or whatever extra bits you choose (or not). Now carefully insert the cup/cupcake into the bag (which is easier if you do not have “man-hands” like I do). Use a piece of ribbon to tie the baggie closed.

Attach a tag to the ribbon if you wish. I printed “thank you” dots onto cardstock, used a round punch to cut them out, then attached them to one side of the ribbon tie with these little metal brads I found in the scrapbooking aisle at Michaels. I used paper for the background polka dot on the tag but you could also use a coordinating felt color.

The Peanut Butter Cup Cookies were the first things to disappear. I got much of my baking inspiration from the fabulous www.bakerella.com.

Here are links to many of the shops I purchased items from to make my vision a reality.

Let me know if you have any comments or questions!
